Postnatal period / "Wochenbett"

The postpartum period is a time of physical and psychological adjustment and transformation.

A new and very different life begins and your family needs time and patience to adjust to the new situation.

The so called "Wochenbett (maternity bed?)" covers the first eight weeks after the birth of the baby.

If you want, you can look for a midwife who will accompany and advise you at home during this time.

In Germany it is part of the statutory health insurance benefits and, in my opinion, is highly recommended, not just for the first child.

It is often easier if you have a midwife at your side as a trusted person who can give you security, answer questions and make it possible for you to have a calm, relaxed postpartum period.

My postpartum care:

In the first few days after the birth, I will come to your home for several days, every day.

Later, the distances increase - little by little and as needed.

I'll check to see if you're doing well and everything is going smoothly (breastfeeding, uterus, bleeding, etc.).

In addition, I look at your baby/babies (weight, jaundice, passage of stool and urine, etc.).

If you decide to go home right after the birth, I can also carry out the newborn screening at your home.

There are a few topics that I will discuss with you, such as caring for the newborn, breastfeeding, postnatal recovery, contraception, complementary feeding, introducing solid food, and much more.

There is plenty of space and time for questions.

Postpartum visits are covered by health insurance up to 12 weeks after birth.

Appointments can then be made to answer questions about breastfeeding and feeding the baby with solids.

Additionally I offer a postpartum outpatient clinic:

- Every Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in my practice (Tauroggener Straße 43)

- Outpatient postpartum care and advice for breastfeeding and feeding difficulties

- Please register via email / contact form

- Costs are usually covered by statutory health insurance
